Healthy teeth and gums are the foundation of a healthy mouth and a beautiful smile! That is why Monarch Landing Dental is pleased to offer dental hygiene and teeth cleaning appointments to help you achieve the optimal dental health you deserve. It is very important to schedule regular dental examinations and cleanings. While regular home care is very important, it only focuses on areas of the teeth above the gum line. A professional dental cleaning cleans your teeth not only above the gum line called scaling, but also in those hard to reach places below the gum line as well, called root planing. It is only through regular root planing AND scaling that the tartar, plaque and bacteria below the gumline and in hard to reach places can be fully removed.

• Our team conducts a complete periodontal assessment.
• A complete check of your gum tissue is done. This includes checking your mouth for any gum recession, the presence of gingivitis and possible gum disease.
• An intra-oral exam to check the gum tissue, tongue and lips for confirmation of health.
• Scaling, which is the process of removing plaque, tartar (calculus) and bacteria from your teeth, keeping your gums and bone healthy and disease free.
• Polishing your teeth to remove stains and prevent plaque accumulation.

Digital radiographs when required

• Radiography helps your dentist detect cavities in between teeth, assess bone levels, and detect other possible problems within your mouth. Your dentist will decide what type of images are needed and how often you need them based on your oral health examination and specific needs.
• Research shows that radiation received from digital X-ray machines is less than the radiation accumulated from naturally occurring background sources.

Fluoride treatment (if desired)

• You will be provided with the option to receive fluoride treatment after your dental cleaning. Fluoride is a natural mineral that helps strengthen the enamel, which is the outer layer of your teeth, and helps to prevent cavities from forming.

Sealants (if desired)

• Applying sealants is a simple, quick and painless procedure. Sealants are protective coatings that are applied on the deep grooves on your back teeth to help prevent cavity formation in the future.

An oral cancer screening:

• At each visit we make our best efforts to screen your oral tissues, which includes the head, neck and jaw area, to assess the health and signs of oral cancer. Our goal is to identify mouth cancer in the early stages or even before it turns into cancer, when there is a better chance for treatment and cure.

Monarch Landing Dental understands that every patient will require a different dental hygiene and teeth cleaning schedule that is suited to their individual needs. Most patients come in for a dental hygiene appointment every 6 months. Some patients, however, may benefit from coming in every 3-4 months and others may be able to visit every 9-12 months. Genetics, grinding habits, home care and the positioning of your teeth are all key factors in determining the best check-up schedule for you. For patients who are experiencing heavy staining, gum disease, loose teeth or heavy calculus buildup, coming in for teeth cleanings more often will help keep teeth healthier.
